I think I've found another cultural difference between the US and
everywhere else.
Last week, because my 6-year-old cell phone was dying I replaced it. The
new one is very small (LG V111). It has a hole for a wrist strap but none
was included. All I can find in local malls and shops is ugly leather or
neoprene cases for this phone. No wrist straps. What I want to use is a
wrist strap, sort of like those that come with many cameras. No luck.
Then I do a few Google, Yahoo, and AltaVista searches and I find tons and
tons of cell phone wrist straps. They are all for sale by companies
located in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore! And not just plain nylon straps
-- there is a dazzling array of character, idol, and lifestyle designs.
Apparently, outside the US phone straps are quite the fashion accessory.
You learn something new every day, if you're lucky.
