Appears to be location. Specifically, Disney.
Several shows have been cancelled, replaced with others.
Kenshin, Mosquiton, Photon, X: the Movie. Which might be
understandable - maybe they didn't have the tapes or
films to play? - except that Photon *was* playing
yesterday, and they could have just replayed the same
tape to keep the schedule intact.
It also doesn't explain why the late-night programming
was cut entirely.
The rumors I've heard, consistently - and I'm not sure
if the rumors are so consistent because scandals tend
to spread easier, or because there's some truth to
them - say that Disney has been pushing AX organizers
to shut down shows with unacceptable content, due to
the complaints of non-con guest who managed to wander
into video rooms and see something they didn't like.
Disney has also supposedly forced exhibitors to remove
hentai from the exhibit hall (and while I was there
today I wandered around trying to see if I could find
any [for, uh, research. Yeah, "research"] - no dice).
Again, I can't say for sure what's happened. I haven't
seen any official notice from the con organizers about
this, and I may have just had bad luck in picking shows,
and wasn't thorough enough in sweep of the exhibit hall.
Maybe I, and the attendees I heard it from, are
reacting to nothing.
But somehow I get the feeling AX won't be held at the
Disney hotels next year.
