The time has come to insert my useless, probably pointless, two
cents. At no time is "mind control" involved. A selective hypnosis, yes,
but even Tenchi admits he just does not remember things, not that he
remembers them differently. Which brings up the question, if you had
amnesia, would you admit to it, or try and play it off like nothing was wrong
for the sake of avoiding looking like an idiot? Even with the belief that
Haruna's, um, an undesirable, sad, stupid, pathetic, sick, whatever,
character (you'd be wrong, wrong, wrong... but with that idea in mind),
remember everybody loves Mayuka (unless you are undesirable, sad, stupid,
pathetic, sick, and everything else; she's cool dammit, admit it), and
therefore something cruel and vicious done to Mayuka (and don't you think
realizing what happened is going to hurt her?), must hurt you, the viewer of
such mean things, a lot more than something being done by (a) a character you
don't like, (b) to a character who's actions in the film have been
continually criticized as not to be liked/accepted (therefore, not the
character you give a damn about). TMiL2 scene: eh, it was just sorta there
(Tenchi having sex, now that didn't sink in for awhile, shellshock maybe);
MnE scene: I cringed, I cried, I had to keep my friend from attacking the
screen (with the incredibly dense baseball-sized weapon of mass destruction
kindly known as the Justice Planet; excellent tool for watching hockey and
soccer games with, 'specially when your team's losing).
