Ok, I am new to this list and decided that this is as good of a time as any
to jump in!

Here is my confession, tear up the newbie if you must.... ;-)

I have not seen any of Shin Tenchi yet, but having read some spoilers I
think I just may be one of those people who hate it because Tenchi falls
for another "chick"!
I will wait and see (if the tapes show up around here soon, maybe it won't
be too long) to reserve my judgment but....I may indeed hate it for that
reason alone.

Why? Because I love Ryoko (tear me up for this too, I don't mind) and even
though I think Tenchi may be a bit of a wimp at times, she loves him with
passion and my heart would break for her. BTW, my other favorite show, my
"real live actors" beloved show, is The X-Files. I guess I am just a sucker
for the unrequited, disfunctional, unexpressed love scenario. :-/
And basically, I am a romantic. To me, Ryoko loves Tenchi, would give her
life for him, so she should win him...eventually. I would hope that he
really loves her too, though. I can see evidence of this, but... you
know....you can read things into everything if you want to believe! 

I have heard a lot of really bad reviews of STM because of all the other
things people hate it for, but I don't know if I can actually really hate
it that much because at least it is Tenchi! Although, I have higher hopes
for the movie. We are a family of Tenchi fans, I am the mom of three
teenagers who are just as addicted as my husband and I am! We can't go too
long without something or we have withdrawls. 

Here is another newbie question, what are SD characters?
