There is something specific that a *server* must do to get Netscape's
defaults MIDI plugin to play MIDI files without any major problems.. well,
at least on the Windows side of things. Not too sure how the Mac versions
of Netscape handle it. Neither of two server that I'm on (Netcom and
Bayside) had this setting when I first started making pages on them, so
when I tried to embed MIDI files, they wouldn't play properly, but they
reconfigured the servers shortly afterwards, so now they work fine.

Obviously, since I'm not the one who had to deal with changing the server
configurations (nor did I keep myself well-informed on its progress), I
can't really help Aubrey in this case.. but just to confirm (as Mako did)
that such a problem does exist.

A way around this is to use the HTML tags for Crescendo, which doesn't rely
on server configuration like Netscape does (although it used to). There
are, of course, advantages and disadvantages of doing this..

The more current versions of M$IE does support the <embed> tag (well, at
least mine does.. it might have to do with my installing of Crescendo for
M$IE some time ago, I'm not too sure).

With the <embed> tag, you can choose to not let the MIDI play automatically
(though they'd still download it), but not with <bgsound>. With
Crescendo, if the person doesn't have the plug-in, they need to download it
first, and if they do that, typically they WANT to hear the music.... I
think you can choose not to let it play automatically with Crescendo, as
well, but since I don't use it, I'm not sure...

BTW, Brazil, for some reason I'm getting two copies of the messages you
send to the Tenchi ML. Any idea what might be causing this?
