Quite a few people have been asking if the Series is any good or like
Tenchi, to the first question YES the second question NO !!
While both stories share a few similarities (besides Pioneer, AIC, and the
director) Each series has it's own merits.
While Makoto has some woman interested in him, like Tenchi does, and both
main characters have a strong compassion streak in their character, Makoto
is more decisive while Tenchi seems to walking around in a "muddle" being
very INdecisive !
It really isn't fair to judge one series agianst the other one because
El-Hazard IS NOT Tenchi in E-H and it's not Makoto trying to dodge Ryokos
advances.
Each series has it's own theme and style, while a small bit similarites
between Tenchi 1-6 and E-H are due to the same director each series has
it's own life to it the characters aren't carbon copies of each other, and
most importantly the story lines aren't carbon copies either !!
I was curious about E-H after reading about it and reading the directors
interview in Animerica, being a Tenchi fan made it all the more likely I
would at least buy the 1st episode since I've seen Mr Hiroki Hayashis work
before (Hope I didn't mess his name up) and after buying the first ep. I
was hooked !
So to make a long winded letter short the message is buy it or borrow it
from a friend and Judge for your self, I'd say from the number of letters
about E-H on this ML it would be a safe bet to say it is a VERY good
series !!
