    a.  it's following a decade-old trend.

    b.  reason "a" but strengthened by the recent dominance of magical-girl
        shows.

    c.  female characters are more flexible (and therefore more marketable)
        than male characters, since magical-boy shows don't sell as well as
	tough-girl shows.

    d.  most anime fans are boys!  ^_^;

        (this does not apply in Japan however, where the ratio is far
	more balanced)
