The three sisters, of Norse mythology, are the three goddesses of
fate. For someone versed in Norse mythology the editors have made the
identifications painfully obvious by the last scene in OVA 13. The goddesses
are future=Washu=Skuld, present=Tsunami=Verthandi(a hearth goddess, noted
for domesticity, as we see in her soon to be avatar in the TM universe,
Sasami), and finally past=Tokimi=Urd (the least accessable and humane of the
fates). The fates are actually considered more powerful than gods, since the
gods are subject to fate, and the three sisters live at the base of the
world tree, which extends through the 13(or however many) inhabited worlds.
In the Eddas, the sisters demand Odin's eye in exchange for wisdom (Compare
Dr. Clay), and he ever after maintains he was cheated.
You have met the fates elsewhere in the AMG/OMG series.( a rather
different interpretation.)
We are told the fates have decided to create a new center of power
in the TM universe, based on Tenchi, Ryoko, Sasami/Tsunami, and Ryo-ohki,
under the decreed protection of the fates( spoken by Urd/Tokimi)
I hope this explanation is not too excessive, I got carried away.
This stuff is all look-upable.
