I like it, but is there a Norse or Japanese goddess of luck with
these chaotic, erratic characteristics? I don't want to spoil the fun by
claiming to see the one and true mythic framework of our story, but I have
only seen Norse and Japanese traits, though the editors have gotten quite
obvious about the three sisters. I think Washu is quite an interesting take
on Skuld, and the Royal trees are the World Tree.( explains the spread of
mankind. The trees are behind things, running things from the beginning.
Notice the way Funaho signals in OVA 1. Ryu-oh just happens to be in the
area, with Aeka and Sasami on ice, and tells Aeka only that Ryoko has been
detected!!! And Ryoko, who has been in Funaho's embrace for 700 years knows
that Aeka is coming. How do you spell setup?)
By now (OVA 13) we have seen enough to know that Mihoshi is neither
dumb nor incompetent, both are acts, but she really is ditsy by personality.
Even her dumb act in OVA 6 turns out to have been to draw an explanation out
of Washu that she would never have given to someone she thought was
intelligent. Really a good act for a detective!
