Other than the rather obvious directions and connections to the Fennec that the project
would entail...
The art style (less the canid face) very closely matches some common images of Ken-Ohki
and a couple of the slightly miffed version of Ryo.
If I ever end up using Fennec on something, I am definitely changing the logo to that
of the similar Tenchi one.
Firefox on my Mac has had an anime version of the logo since practically it's OSX
inception.  The version I have looks like a Harlock anime-inspired girl with fox-legs
and tail.  Most people don't initially notice the change, it's fun when they
finally notice (and the next thing they notice is that she is completely naked).

After seeing the links Glenn provided, I'm actually quite surprised that a lot of
people don't already have them as pets, here (or especially, in California/Hollywood).
