A couple of companies got the rights to publish translated novels. Of
the ones I know about are Battle Royale, Slayers, Crest/battle of the
Stars, Vampire Hunter D, and a Clamp School Paranormal Novel.
There are a few more, but since I have only heard of them from the
publishers websites, I can't take them as actual releases (Del Rey
apparently has some releases slated, and they are a reputable
publishing group).

Unfortunately, the Slayers sucked big time... They translated it to
about a thrid grade level, the translator had no poetry in his/her
soul, so it was a dry read, and they actually spread the equivalent of
one novel across 6 or 7 books. The text is very large, but the price
of each book is very high, so instead of paying $7 for a novel, you end
up paying IIRC $50 orso -- and you had to wait practically a whole year
to read it all.
One of my friends is reading the Vampire Hunter D books, and he says
the descriptive references to D, are getting very repetitive,
especially with comments about his beautific looks.
I've heard nothing but good things about the Battle Royale books, but
since I am legally blind, I have been unable to actually read any of
it.

It would be nice if Del Rey could do the Tenchi material (or maybe
Baen), BUT they would hazve to get one of their better writers to work
on it -- i.e., have a translator, but who is working in conjunction
with an actual accomplished writer. (things to scare you -- Think of
the Tenchi universe as written by Stephen King, or worse, Danielle
Steel. Jordan migh be cool, or Eddings -- Niven would be a fascinating
spin, as well).

I actually ordered the new tankouban and the first 2 GXP novels a
couple of weeks back. I will probably get them by the end of the
month.
