<Spoilers>

>And why is she scared of them? Because they were able to
casually beat her in a physical confrontation.

Except that Airi has done that too, and we don't seem to be
speculating on whether or not Airi is a goddess.<

Neither situations with Misaki and Washuu were physical
confrontations as they weren't even trying to hurt her. Also,
Ryouko did kick Washuu for throwing her into the lake... and it
had very little effect on Washuu.

>We had a thread about this a while back, when the second episode
of the new series aired. It wasn't Misaki's casual method of
dealing with Ryoko that provoked the thread. It was that other
people seemed to be doing it just as easily. Suddenly, the
dreaded pirate of the spaceways was looking like a pushover.<

Remember, the "dreaded pirate" was also physically matched by
Aeka, who hasn't exactly come across as the consumate warrioress.
Ryouko was never pitched as a super-strength, invulnerable
person. Physically, she is no stronger than any of the other body
strengthened individuals. Her primary advantage during her attack
on Jurai was Ryo-Oh-Ki and she was backed up with all three
jewels, which enabled her to summon demons to fight the Juraian
guards. Ryouko herself made the point regarding what she is known
for in the onsen fight with Aeka.

>I'm sorry if you don't see it, but its basically a massive
failure on the part of Kajishima. This isn't a class where people
are expected to read extraneous materials that aren't necessarily
assigned in class. Its an animated show that's presented as
entertainment, and as such people should be able to view it as its
own product.<

     That's a non-sequitor. 1. Foreshadowing is used in writing
in accordance with how much shock/surprise that the writer wants
to convey. 2. The audience in which the show was *intended* still
had hints.

>Fine. If you want to get anal about it, then I'll turn to
something else that pretty much fits this situation to a 'T'. JMS
personally dealt with the various Babylon 5 comic books. They're
canon. And the stunt that Kajishima pulled would be like JMS
making a significant plot point of Babylon 5 Season Four revolve
around something that was never mentioned except in the comic books.<

Babylon 5 was a series primarily aimed at a broad audience.
OVA 3 is primarily aimed at a core, Japanese audience, the ones
that bought the published material. When you understand that,
then you'll understand how the medium is being used.
