And why is she scared of them? Because they were able to casually beat her in a physical
confrontation.

Except that Airi has done that too, and we don't seem to be speculating on whether
or not Airi is a goddess.

We had a thread about this a while back, when the second episode of the new series
aired. It wasn't Misaki's casual method of dealing with Ryoko that provoked the thread.
It was that other people seemed to be doing it just as easily. Suddenly, the
dreaded pirate of the spaceways was looking like a pushover.

I'm sorry if you don't see it, but its basically a massive failure on the part of
Kajishima. This isn't a class where people are expected to read extraneous materials
that aren't necessarily assigned in class. Its an animated show that's presented

as entertainment, and as such people should be able to view it as its own product.

>I understand your point. However, there's one major difference
between "Star Wars" and TM!R. The "Star Wars" novels are not
considered canon any more than the "Star Trek" novels are. The TM!R
novels are considered canon as are the doujinshi, so
that's a big difference.

Fine. If you want to get anal about it, then I'll turn to something else that pretty
much fits this situation to a 'T'. JMS personally dealt with the various Babylon
5 comic books. They're canon. And the stunt that Kajishima pulled would be like

JMS making a significant plot point of Babylon 5 Season Four revolve around something
that was never mentioned except in the comic books.

Are there things that are revealed in the comic books that shed light on what happens
in the Babylon 5 TV series or the background?

Yes.

Do you get a better appreciation for certain characters by reading the comic book
stories?

Presumeably (haven't read any of them myself, although I do know what one story is
about).

Was an established part of the series (character, plot, location, etc...) going to
undergo a radical change that hadn't been hinted at during the series, but only in
the comic book stories?

Not a chance in Hell.

You provide the background, no matter how minimal it ends up being. You drop clues,
even if its only a seeming throwaway line that doesn't make sense until later (Season
1, Giribaldi makes a seeming throwaway comment about hiking out of the desert
with Sinclair - Season 3, we find out what he was doing in the desert). You set things
up so that people can look back and say, "Oh, that makes sense." And you provide
enough information to make it clear afterwards what exactly is a clue, and what
exactly is just random filler. You don't put the clues in an entirely different medium,
and expect people to know what's going on.
