I've got a really odd problem with my PS2, and I'm hoping someone here will know what
is going on. My apologies for the OT post.

I've been playing the new Star Ocean recently. Last night, I turned the game on,
and when I pushed the buttons on my controller to start the game (as opposed to running
the title sequence in an endless loop), nothing happened. A test with a handy
DVD (Macross, volume 7 ^^ ) in my PS2 discovered a few things.

1.) The only button on my controller that seemed to consistantly work was the down
button. When the highlight box reached an area on the DVD menu where it could move
from side to side, it went nuts, suggesting that something's out of whack with
either the left or right movement button. Star Ocean doesn't have any uses for a
"Down" button at the title menu, but it does have a use for the left or right button.
But the highlighted option wasn't changing (unlike on the DVD menu).
2.) Another handy controller (from my PS1) worked fine with the DVD menu.
3.) If I used the second controller with Star Ocean, I still was unable to do anything.
Once again, I still couldn't get past the title screen.
4.) If I took all discs out of the PS2, then the second controller worked fine (i.e.
on the screen that allows you to select memory cards).

So, I'm guessing that at the very least, I've got a bad controller. But that still
doesn't explain what's going on with Star Ocean. Any ideas?
