While I managed to miss the mini-series (from what I've heard, no real loss), the
bits and pieces I've heard don't have me all that excited about the new series.  Supposedly,
one of the people involved with it at Sci-Fi wanted a "soap opera in space",
and from what I've heard of the mini-series, it might not be too difficult to make
the mini-series into that sort of a show.

But I quit paying attention to information 9-10 months ago, when I thought the new
series idea had safely disappeared.  I was quite surprised to see the ads for it on
Sci-Fi.
