I would honestly say that you could go your whole life having never
seen this film and your life would be much more fulfilling. I wouldn't
say the film is overrated, but I would say that many critics and church
officials are easily impressed. A shallow storyline, excessive amount
of gore, and the usual Hollywood liberties make for a film with little
to no substance. It's tragic that Mel Gibson was allowed to finish such
a film and then not held accountable for it's lack of meaningful content.
To like the film you'd have to be predisposed to do so by being a
solid believer in the gospels according to the Old/New Testament.
