True Sheol's e-mails aren't getting into the ML, so I offered to post his reply for
him, unedited.

I realize that the questions have been answered, but I wanted to fill in some details.

>I know a bunch of the old-timers have this straight, but there are a few questions
I'm not so
sure about:<

>1. Was Yosho secretly sent off to study with the GP? Is this where he met Airi?<

No and yes. After the situation with Youshou and Misaki, Seto suggested to him that
he
study at the Galaxy Academy, not the Galaxy Police Academy which is simply part of
the
Academy. To disguise his royal heritage, he had Funaho-ki disguise itself as a normal
vessel
and Yousho passed himself off as a boy from one of Jurai's other planets. As this
was his
first day at the Academy, he was assigned an upperclassman to show him around. Airi
was the
upperclassman assigned.

*note* Back in Washu's early years, the Galaxy Academy was called the Royal Space
Academy as
it was part of Jurai. After the incident with her child and husband, Washuu rejected
the
intergalactic politics that forced the split and led the Academy's departure from
Jurai's
authority. This established the Academy as an independent organization of learning.
The Royal
Space Academy was then renamed the Galaxy Academy and Wasyuu became it's first President.

>2. Did Yosho actually marry Airi? Why did he leave her?<

Because he was a prince of Jurai, it was unacceptable for him to spend all of his
time at
the Academy. So, Yosho would spend half of the year at the Galaxy Academy and half
of the year
back at Jurai. It must be noted that he was now promised to Aeka. Airi, as the daughter
of
her nation/religion's leader (her family is equivalent to royalty), was engaged to
someone else
as well. In fact, she was to leave the Academy to marry that person and Youshou was
having to
leave the Academy for a half-year. That's when Ryouko attack Jurai. Yosho married
Airi about
150 years later.

>3. Did Yosho know that Airi was pregnant when he left? What happened to Mizuho
(their
daughter)?<

Yosho did not know and neither did Airi. When Airi found out that she was pregnant,
she
knew that her family would have her abort the child once they found out. Because
of that, she
had the embryo placed in stasis. Airi then went back to Airai and broke off the engagement.

Afterwards, she returned to the Academy and defected, becoming a citizen of the Academy.
After
all of that, she had Minaho placed back in her uterus and carried her to term.

>4. When did this affair happen?<

It was not a sudden affair. Yosho was twelve at the time that he met Airi, who was

fifteen. They got along well and drew close. It was not until several years later
that they
became physically intimate.

>5. Did Airi know who Yosho was at the time?<

Though Yosho was pretending that he was from some other planet of Jurai's, he revealed
who
he really was on their first "date".

>6. Was Azusa's father emperor? If not, who was emperor before Azusa?<

Azusa's father was a GP officer, not a member of Jurai's Royal Family. The emperor
before
Azusa was the grandfather of Mitsuki and from House Amaki.

>7. If Misaki is Seto's daughter, why isn't Misaki's last name "Kamiki"?<

     Misaki married into House Masaki.

>8. What were the circumstances that led to Azusa marrying Misaki after he wed Funaho?
Did
Seto arrange this marriage?<

Long before Azusa met Funaho, it was intended that he marry Seto's daughter, Misaki.
This
was because Seto intended to unite House Kamiki and Misaki. (In the beginning, the
Royal
Family was united, not divided in separate houses.) Azusa met Funaho while he was
on his
"warrior's journey".

>9. When did Jurai find out that Yosho was on Earth? Why is everyone so surprised
to find out
he is on Earth in episode 13 if so many Juraians came to Kiyone's wake and funeral?<

As indicated in episode thirteen, Yosho expected them a long time ago. You see, after
the
death of Kasumi, Yosho's first wife and the daughter of Funaho's little sister, he
became
focused on caring for his descendants. He wanted them to have a choice. So, he contacted

Hirata, one of his friends from the Galaxy Academy, to make arrangements for his descendents
to
attend the Academy. That was when he found out that Airi was still alive and single...
and the
mother of his daughter, Minaho. So the two were then finally able to get married.
All of this
was probably how Seto found out where he was as she was keeping close tabs on Youshou's
friends
and associates. Hirata was one of Seto's bodyguards. Even Minaho was one of Seto's

handmaidens.

>10. Isn't it true that everyone who owns a royal tree has SOME Juraian blood in
them? (If you
discount the ones whose origins are a mystery)<

Everyone who partners with a Holy Royal Tree is considered to be a member of Jurai's
Royal
Family, usually the sponsor of the individual in question. An actual blood-connection
is not
required. (example: Seto)

>11. Who are the other royal families? Masaki, Kamiki, Amaki, etc...<

     ...And Tatsuki.

>12. How old is Tenchi's sister?<

As mentioned in the second episode of OVA 3, Tennyo is eighty years old.

>>>> Had Tsunami wanted the throne, she could have taken it at any time. Tsunami
is looking for
Tenchi<<<<

>>>What do you mean Tsunami was looking for Tenchi?<<<

>>This sounds like a reference to one of the more dubious (imo) hypothesis that was
bandied
about back when I was at the AIC forums, and seemingly ended up being accepted as
gospel by a
number of the people there. My memory is somewhat sketchy on the topic (its been
a long time
since I was last on the AIC boards), but from what I can recollect it has to do with
a story
that talks about Washu being split into three parts. I don't remember the details
at all, but
some have taken those parts to be Washu that we know, Tsunami, and Tokimi. Tenchi
is either
another part that is lost but will reemerge in the future, or is independent but prophecied
to
emerge in the future (once again, vague memories). I didn't agree with it, so while
I
understood it at the time I didn't bother to try and remember much of it. Others
may be able
to fill in more details, however. I know Jeff and Alan were active on the boards
at the time
and its possible that they might be more familiar with it.<<

> My own line of thought is that Tsunami has been tinkering with the genetics of Jurai
and the
Masaki bloodline in particular in order to bring about Tenchi. Others will counter
(and have
countered in the past) with a quote from Kajishimi indicating that Tenchi didn't get
his powers
from Tsunami, but I'd argue that the quote specifically means that Tsunami didn't
directly give
him his powers when he met her - rather they were something he'd had since birth.
Under my
interpretation, manipulating his ancestry to bring about his abilities would not run
counter to
Kajishima's statement. Those who disagree with my theory tend to hold to a much,
much more
rigid and expansive interpretation of Kajishima's statement.<

According to Japanese fans on 2ch and an analysis page, Tsunami's goal was discussed
in
doujinshi by Kajishima. She was looking for a being who's traces were found in the
first
Emperor of Jurai. (This encounter is also documented in one of Kajishima's doujinshi.)

Tsunami estimated that it would take millions of years for that being to appear and
so she made
a contract with the first Emperor of Jurai wherein she would protect his family while
waiting
for this being to appear. After thousands of years of waiting, Tsunami (and Goddess
Washu,
through the gems), went to Earth and gave Tenchi a very special ring that signified
that he was
very important to her. Note that Funaho was intent on the disposition of Tenchi throughout
her
discussion with Yousho, even more than the gems. It makes more sense that the entire
story
centering on Tenchi because he is that being, though the reason why he is sought remains

unspecified.

Had it merely been a matter of genetic engineering, then Tsunami could have picked
any
family. That's a no-brainer. The matter of the Royal Trees reinforces this. Grafting
a tree
will not create a new Royal Tree. If Jurai could clone Royal Trees, they would have.
They
cannot be mass-produced, despite the obviously significant genetic engineering technology
that
exists and are used by the Juraians. Why? Probably because the key issue is a
spiritual/extradimensional one, not a physical one. That's why Japanese religious
beliefs
should be considered when trying to understand where Kajishima is leading us.

There is also matter of Tenchi's power. The 101 Mysteries stressed the nature of
ko-oh-
yoku as being divine in origin, not something scientific. This is reinforced by the
fact that
Washuu cannot find the source of Tenchi's power and couldn't analyze the LHWs. If
the greatest
scientist in the universe can't figure out where they come from, then wouldn't you
say that
we're dealing with an extradimensional phenomenon? (An entire conversation by itself.)
So,
all indications are that any sort of genetic engineering is separate from the ability
to create
ko-oh-yoku... or even greater, material conversion.

Regarding Youshou and Funaho-ki, Kajishima's doujinshi (particularly '21st century')

suggest that he will leave earth. How? There's nothing that says that a planted
Royal Tree
cannot return its roots into those subspace connections. Even if a Royal Tree could
not
initiate this itself, couldn't Tsunami, the progenitor of the Royal Trees, be able
to do this?
Even Ryu-Oh's destruction and rebirth gives one possible way this could occur.

As mentioned regarding Tenchi-ken in episode five, its acceptance of Tenchi as its

'owner', despite being 'armed' by Youshou, does not convey partnership of Funaho-ki.

Additionally, keys can store power like a battery, according to Kajishima. (That's
why Aeka
was able to continue fighting after the destruction of Ryu-Oh.) So, after Kagato
turned on the
shield there was only a limited amount of power available to Tenchi-ken, once Tenchi
took it
onto the Souja.

I don't believe that Tenchi-ken is Tsunami's key. Really, if it had been, there would

have been no need for her to give Tenchi that double-hearted ring or for Funaho-ki
to draw
power from Washu's jewels. That ring draws power directly from Tsunami and while
it was cut
off from her in the Souja, it too has some storage capacity (like the ring Youshou
gave to
Airi, Aeka's own key, and Tenchi-ken). So, even if Tenchi-ken is a special master
key, it's
not for Tsunami, but .

Regarding Tsunami, she could have resisted the gems, but according to Kajishima's
original
storyboard for episode six, she did not do so because it would have meant the destruction
of
the Souja and all of those aboard (though Tenchi would have survived).
