Hey all. I know we have several MMORPG geeks on here playing various
games. For the past week I have been playing EQ again and it seems like
a whole new game since I quit right at the start of Shadows of Luclin.
The only annoying glitch from my past playing that is still around is
mobs aggroing through walls. Very annoying, but I can deal with it if
need be. The new areas are pretty cool and The Lost Dungeons of Norrath
is pretty kickass. I really like the single party quest in a unique
dungeon with a countdown timer. It just makes the action more intense
and the loot/exp is really damn good. The beastlord class seems kinda
neat, but I haven't played one yer. Also, Frogloks are nice, but dammnit
I wanted to be able to play a Froglok Monk..Grrr, tired of only
Human/Iksar Monks. Humans suck and Iksar are just annoying. I also saw
the linux EQ program (hack) that allows you to see mobs, what they drop,
and full maps of everything. That is amazingly fucking gay! Verant fix
that shit. Grr.
 
I finally got to see a friend playing FFXI yesterday and it's definitely
not for me. IMO it seems almost as pointless as AC2, PSO (GC/DC), and EQ
Online (PS2) are. I also got to play Dark Age of Camelot a bit over the
weekend at another friends house and the latest expansion Trials of
Atlantis looks pretty fucking hot. I haven't played it in a long time,
but the game is still kickass. My problem with it is that it has more
bot players than UO now. Bah! Mythic needs to get the stick out of their
ass and fix the fucking holes that allow 3rd party programs to run.
Neocron still sucks balls and eventhough AO has been improved it's still
ass. Shadowbane has been improved a lot as well, but after the beta I
don't know if I could ever play the game. I was that fucking traumatized
by the clusterfuck known as the SB beta. SWG is pretty much one of the
single worst MMORPG's I have ever played so it's not even an option. I'd
rather play Planetside or UO than that garbage.
 
The only coming soon title is Horizons which I have watched for a long
time. It seems to be pretty evenly split among beta testers as to how
good it is. I've watched a lot of movies and it's graphics seem very
nice and colorful. Nothing awe inspiring, but very pleasant. The combat
seems very much like DAoC with major usage of special combat attacks and
has very good damage/hit displays to help you track your hits better.
The trade skills in the game seem insanely huge and promotes their usage
by making it where you level from doing purely trade skills if you are
so inclined. You can buy homes, start towns and businesses, and then
have to protect it from invaders. You can play as dragons, but it's a
pretty gimpy dragon as they seem IMO to be more like Iksar from EQ. They
can't even fly until around Lvl 40 or some crap. Grr. A very cool aspect
that is similar to FFXI is the class system which uses the ability for
you to specialize in a class and even mulit-class. Some of the high
level classes require you to multiclass as a pre-req. (Example: Cleric
of Pepolan has class requirement of character being a 5th Lvl Warrior,
5th Lvl Wizard, and 20th Lvl Cleric before you can use this specialty
class) That's a pretty cool touch. I'm still worried that this game
might not get many players with a lot of people holding out because
launch will not have PvP and them waiting for EQ2, World of Warcraft,
and Dragon Empires. All of which I am waiting for myself. :-)
 
It looks like within 1-2 weeks I am going to be playing either Horizons,
EQ, or DAoC. I am about to put my new machine together and I have some
items in Diablo 2 I can sell that should get me about $150 to use for
buying the game and a few months playtime.
 
What are your thoughts on the games out and coming out very soon that
seem like good time investors. I don't care about selling in-game items
or powergaming. I just want good content and fun socialization. Also,
the fucks at EQ better fix warriors this week. I played my friends Lvl
53 Warrior and he can't tank worth a shit. It's sad when an Enchanter
can tank as well as he can and it's his damn job to be one. What is
this, UO all over again? Damn tankmages. Pfft..:-(
