All jokes aside, not all of us are born equal when it comes to
languages, and it does not necessarily equate to either intelligence or
attitude. I have always been fascinated with languages, and have attained a
fair literacy in German, and Koine Greek, and a smattering of several
others. By the book, I am at about 2nd grade level in Japanese(but adults
and children aren't comparable, I know how to look things up) However, I
have never been able to achieve real fluency in any language, even English.
I will be fortunate if I ever meet any of you all, like at a convention,
that you already know I am intelligent and articulate in writing, 'cause in
real life I sound very much like Forrest Gump, complete with Tennessee hills
dialect twang.(people really do react to you based on first impressions and
speech)
On two sides of the coin, Churchill is a famous example of an
intelligent, articulate high achiever who could never acheive even
rudimentary speech or comprehension in any other language(a fact which very
nearly got him killed several times in the Boer Wars, and put him at the
bottom of his class, in fact, if he hadn't been an English Lord, he would
have been washed out at Sandhurst). For those of you who think your're
sharp, Joseph Conrad was an self-educated Polish seaman, of no particular
other distinction, who's first encounter with English was at age 16, and
went on to be one of the great modern writers in English.
On to Tenchi & Anime. I got down to Nikaku's on friday(goodbye
paycheck, walking in there is devastating, financially) Got Pretty Sammy's
songbook, which is very child oriented, with really hokey live/puppet skits
between songs: CAV, but remember, it's Japanese only. Also got Sol Bianca
LD (early ADV: good stuff, CAV, includes standard Plastic Little trailer,
with all the good bits B-). I suppose that's to make up for what is the only
really solidly and frightfully feminist Anime I've ever seen. What this has
to do with TM is that, as has been said before here, Sol Bianca was the
first(and somewhat experimental)effort by what became the TM!RO team. BTW:
Nikaku's has several of those Ryo-ohki costumes ($95)B-))). Just not quite
my style.
Little bit of a boast, and point. I finally saved up and got
PhotoShop (4.0). I don't know whether this will work with my browser
plug-ins, but one thing I got out of it is Quick-time that actually works in
Window(rather well, BTW), both 16 and 32 bit. This is in reference to some
comments I saw tonight on the ML about Quick-time files.
Final BTW: Since there are Vulcans in GP,(and some rather
Federation looking medium cruisers), IMHO we have somewhat license for
Trek-TM cross-over.
