Got a virus warning from the residents techs here at the place I work -
something about an e-mail message warning people their e-mail was about to
expire and asking them to open an attached zip file for more information. I
didn't give it more than cursory attention because 1.) I'm generally smart
enough not to get caught by something like that at work (along with the
question of why I'd be getting something that was legitimate like that at
work), and 2.) Lycos handles my personal e-mail, and I have yet to see an
attachment that didn't automatically get stripped as a "security feature".
So a few minutes ago, I checked my personal e-mail and found 2 messages from
"admin@lycos.com". Both were entitled "your account___________mok". I
opened one of them up, and lo and behold, it was the e-mail I'd been warned
about, with the presumably infected attachment included - probably the first
time I've seen an attachment make it through.
At any rate, since I'm sure I'm not the only one using Lycos for my e-mail,
and since this is so unusual, I thought I'd pass this little incident along.
While it may not actually be Lycos that's sending the attachment along, its
definitely odd to even be able to get one in the first place.
