Habuki was the less favored child. She was the weaker
of two twins, and that is why her mother favored her
sister and abandoned her to an uncertain fate. Habuki
for her part used the fear and loneliness, and her
hatred of her mother as motivation to survive, and
transformed herself into a brilliant if neurotic
child. She clamped down on her fear and anxiety,
pushing them down into the core of herself as she
strove for heights that weren't necessarily within her
reach. To be blunt, she was intellectually brilliant
at the cost of emotional immaturity. She allowed her
difficult childhood to lock her emotions into a rictus
of conflict with fear and need and anger, so that
underneath the bright exterior lay only a child's
blankness. She was egocentric, controlling,
workaholic and narcissistic.

And, though she wouldn't admit it, she hated herself
for being a weakling, for not being good enough to be
her beloved twin sister's equal and to be by her side.
And that self hate festered alongside an unhealthy
hatred for her mother.

Years passed by.... And Habuki matured into a gangly
and awkward adult, with many of her juvenile
tendencies still inherent. She performed more than
well enough to execute the tasks that Tsunami set
aside for her, since her narcissism and egocentrism
created a false sense of security, for those are not
necessarily bad traits in the kind of heroic duties
that she performed. And Tsunami, like the rest of her
sisters, did not understand the complexity of human
emotions well enough to perceive problems. For her
part the Water God revealed secret knowledge to her
apprentice, knowledge entrusted by Tokimi to her in
Tsunami's role as the god of mystery and danger to
withhold from undeserving eyes. Of the Choushin she
only knew the kind and trusting Tsunami, who became a
kind of surrogate mother into whom Habuki put an
unwarranted degree of trust, even love. She was
familiar with Tsunami's counterpart Washu to some
degree, but of the mysterious Tokimi she knew nothing,
for the Lord of Creation forbade revelation of her
existence to those outside of her service.

At some point after this (and this is a speculative
section, I must admit) Habuki was reunited with her
sister. I imagine it was during a brief return to the
earthly realm, perhaps a visit to the court of the new
emperor/empress (Yao came to power during Yi's service
to Di Jun). And Masaki had become attached to the
court by dint of her intelligence and beauty. And
where Habuki struggled and succeeded in spite of
herself, Masaki could do no wrong.

Remember that "Circle of Life" song that Elton John
did for the Lying King a few years ago? There is a
line in it that sums up the contrast between these
two: "Some of us sail through our problems, and some
have to live with the scars."

It was not as pleasant of an encounter as Habuki would
have liked, because it confirmed her mother's
judgement, at least for someone who judged their
personal reflection in a funhouse mirror. While it was
a joyous occasion for everyone (except Mom*) it may
have placed a seed of envy in Habuki's heart. And
jagged self-hatred that would reveal itself as self
righteousness or wrongly timed action of a drastic or
draconian nature. (End overwrought foreshadowing) What
happened after this happy/sad meeting I will leave to
others, as I'm already on a limb here as it is.

The occasion for that disaster came some years later.
Why Washu's LHW's chose that particular moment for
meltdown isn't exactly clear. Personally I think that
Xi-He was an unwilling provocateur, rather like Eden's
doofus serpent, in that her action is adamic in its
outcome. But putting that aside for now, a disaster
did happen, whereby her ten light hawk wings chose to
emerge as a single energy wave. By Washu's dictates,
the Ten were supposed to emerge and influence the
universe in singles, for Washu is the goddess of
energy, birth and life. But ten was nine too many. The
waves of catastrophic energy threatened to blow the
very fabric of the universe apart. The ruler of the
earthly realm sent warning to Tsunami, who dispatched
Habuki with orders to apply "appropriate force". The
Water God gave her knight ten devices of power that
would bring her mission to success. Habuki was of
perfect skill in using them, and was confident that
she would succeed. Upon arriving in the earthly realm
she was met by the ruler, and her sister Masaki, the
most skilled of his advisers.

The three of them set up as close as they could get to
the errant light hawk wings. Habuki's skill with
Tsunami's devices meant that she would the one to
neutralize them, with her sister and the ruler
watching. And as the Yi myth tells already, Habuki
fired one of the devices, straight into the heart of
the first LHW. It exploded and dimmed, revealing a
black shadow with three burned out gems within it.
Habuki fired the second device, and another black
shadow emerged, again with three gems. Habuki warmed
to her task, and fired again and again, in a
repetitive blur. LHW after LHW was hit through the
heart, until only two were left. At this point, the
dimbulbed ruler suddenly realised her intent, and
sabotaged one of the devices in a move that can only
be described as being the "Mihoshi Effect" (i'll
explain later by what I mean by that). When Habuki
came down to the last LHW, she reached for the last
device and discovered that it was non-functional. And
thus was the universe saved from an overzealous
showoff.

Tsunami was pissed....... Really pissed.......

For Habuki had exceeded her authority. And Tsunami
threw Habuki out of heaven forever, bootprint and all.
But what nobody understood yet was that she had
altered herself, and the entire balance of the three
Choushin forever, in an irrevocable manner. Where
three had stood, now there were two and a paradox. The
cradle of humanity had been kicked over, and Habuki
was about to become an unwitting pioneer through the
darkness.
