I found an interview with Fred Patten; there's an interesting perspective here on how the conflict between NBC (which was underwriting Kimba) and Tezuka (who was creating it) ended up making a show that was probably better (in the audience's opinion) than the no-compromise versions suggested by NBC and Tezuka.
