From my previous french experience, i would guess "la dame du mer". Of
course, La Sirene, (which I have never actually heard in normal
conversation... ^_^;), sounds like "the siren"(spell check?) which, of
course, was in the greek writings of Homer's Oddessy/(or maybe Illiad), and
were the mythical woman sang out at sea and lead sailors to their
deaths..Since the women were really connected to some sort of monster.. (Of
couse, it's been a whole semester since i have read it, anyway!)

Anyway... it's close enough...
