All in all its been a pretty good week for anime fans.
Tuesday we got the heir apparent to Slayers, Saber Marionette J (already
talked about how much I like that so far) Friday was Pretty Sami! Looks
good, pretty similar to the first part of the first OAV, at least until
the baddie looks at us and says, "See you next week! (in English)" And
Saturday was "Taiho Shichauzo!", also very similar to the first OAV.
Great animation for all these shows, I will definitely tape and watch
them all!
Also on Saturday was "Kiko-chan Smile!" I bet Hitoshi was disappointed
with this! (^_^;) But it's a funny show in the Shin-chan vein, focusing
on the very weird kid that is Kiko-chan, and how her weirdness affects
others, especially her poor teacher! Since it's on before Taiho, I might
just tape this too.
Does anybody know anything about a drama called "Sei Naru Shoujonoshi"
(my guess at the kanji, anyway) I've never heard of it before, but it
apparently has Inoue Kikuko, Hisakawa Aya, and Iwao Junko, so it must be
good.
Twinbee Paradise 3 is fast becoming the most gaijin friendly seiyuu radio
show of them all. Kouda Mariko read a letter from a fan who translated
the famous saying into English three different ways: "The password is
Bee", "The watch word is Bee", and something that didn't make any sense
to me. It sounded like "The syballus is Bee" (I know there's no such word)
But the person insists that #3 is the closest to the true meaning! I
almost feel compelled to write in that no gaijin would understand that
any better than "Ai kotoba ha Bee!" But at least Mariko cares enough
about us to throw the gaijin a few tidbits here and there (she said that
it seemed like an English Corner was forming on her show! :) In the
credits for the radio show, the characters usually introduce themselves
as "<last name> <some funny or meaningful comment> <first name>" This
week, Kikko-san was "Inoue 'When you want to sing, please sing a song
that you like to sing...lala la lala, this is so fun...' Kikuko" Not to
be outdone, Ogata Megumi of all people started out "Ogata 'lala la
lala..." Strangely enough, Ogata Megumi's singing was cuter! (^_^;)
Last night I also caught Hayashibara Megumi's "Tokyo Boogie Night" for
the first time. I like this show, because her fast talking warms me up
and makes it easier for me to follow Aya's show afterwards. Oh Hitoshi,
there's gonna be a special 2-hour Tookie Boogie Night on October 25th,
and Inoue Kikuko will be one of the guests.
On top of that, I also rented two other good videos. First was Can Can
Bunny. This show is as good as the art makes it seem like it would be!
I'd rate it even higher than Doukyuusei in that genre. And then I saw
the movie "Tenchi Muyo in Love" So *that's* who that girl is! Anyhow,
if you're a Tenchi fan, it is a no-brainer that you have to watch this.
I'm not a huge Tenchi fan, but I still thought this was awesome. Twas a
real movie, not a pathetic rip-off like the Marmalade Boy and SM Supers
"movies" It also compelled me to buy the Alchemy of Love CD single (I
kinda figured there had to be some non-Japanese influences in this song,
but I had no idea that the original song was entirely in English!)
(as one more aside, on Something Dreams Multimedia Countdown, the authors
of the top ten anime songs are given as the character name, NOT the
seiyuu behind them! So to Michael Studte and all the other people who
refused to believe that I saw Sailor Mercury singing, <pulls down eyelid>
BEEEEEEDDDAAAAA!)
Oh, speaking of great movies, set your VCR's, because the Friday night
movie of the week is "Mimi wo Sumaseba!" I am NOT going to miss this again!
While I'm on a role, another good thing from the Voice Animage 10
magazine is the pictures of the Mahou Tsukai Tai cast, in their school
uniforms! Iwao Junko is VERY CUTE! (wow...) But Konishi Hiroko ruined
any chance she ever had of being cute with that butcher job haircut she
now has...
Finally, Sakurai Tomo Natsu 96 concert video goes on sale November 21st,
another no brainer item to buy!
Mou tsukareta kara...
