I am using this MPEG-1 box :

The shape is the same as Hitoshi's.  Might be OEM.
USB.  Quite easy to use.  The output from the box is 
MPEG-1.

DVC has come up with a MPEG-2 box :

Now you can save your VHS into fewer disc.  ^_^
