To be honest, I'm really disappointed by the new movie.

From the bootlegged "trailers" that I've seen, the movie won't be a
continuation of the series, or even a side story.  Either of those would
have been pretty cool in my opinion.
   Instead, it's a "parallel universe" meaning that they will start at the
very beginning, when Hitomi leaves Earth and goes to Gaia, and continues
from there.  All the characters are the same, but the entire storyline has
been altered.  I don't even think that Hitomi has her special pendant.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I've never understood why fans are willing to
settle for that.  They do this in several anime series.  Personally, I
don't want to have the same story retold to me with some script doctoring.

But in any case, I bet that I'm in the minority.  I don't doubt that the
movie will rack in the sales and fans will horde the merchandising.
