Oh, just since Roman times. I'll take a wine from the Main valley any
day, over any other bottle of wine on the planet. Of course, that's just
personal taste, and 99.999999% of people would probably disagree with me.

Actually, if I remember this right, the City of Wurzburg actually banned
beer forever, in the 1300's, because it was cutting into the profits of
the wineries. Beer won.
I'm probably wrong, but I suspect that Germany is probably the only place
besides Canada, that makes a decent (dessert) ice wine, although their
conditions are not as suitable as here. Anyone know?
