Hmmm, I guess I will proceed to add more pointless noise. I'm back from my
first event outside of Tokyo. (Well, I guess Chiba and Saitama aren't
techinically Tokyo but they are in the general vicinity.) Lemme tell ya,
Osaka is hot! And when I got back today it was hotter here. -_-

They say that Hekiru is better in Osaka. To be honest, the first day was
kinda disappointing. Perhaps that had something to do with being trapped
between 2 drunks, and sitting behind some totally motionless statues. Can't
complain really though, since it _was_ Row D. Woo woo! Closest I've ever
been to Hekiru!

The second day, on the other hand, was simply amazing. I think a large
factor of enjoying oneself at a Hekiru concert is being around people who
really get into it. That way you get all worked up into a frenzy as well.
Actually being able to see Hekiru well is a secondary issue. ^^

Course, I'd still take close seats over 2nd floor anyday. Maybe.

Personally I found my trip to be a real education in Japanese fandom. I
showed up at about 7:30am at the concert hall, and there were 3 other fans
who were there as well. I guess a girl venturing all the way to Osaka was
unusual enough for them to start talking to me. Also, they didn't realize I
wasn't Japanese for about an hour. Yes! In any case, I made a ton of
Japanese friends that weekend. Seems that there is a really big circle of
fans who are got to know each other through Hekiru concerts. These guys are
pretty damn hardcore. I consider myself to be a serious fan, but these
people blow all sanity out of the water. It was enough to make me feel awed
and nervous at the same time.

Some of the guys had contacts through the equipment truck drivers and know
the exact schedule of the concert setup, and other details down to which
hotel Hekiru would be staying at and even which room she would be in. Other
people had like what looked like hundreds of photographs of Hekiru
(pictures used in magazines and calendars and stuff) which they proceeded
to trade around. Some guy also had a video of Hekiru when she was still in
high school! Jeez! How do these people get this stuff?!

What really impressed me the most though, was meeting the guy who
originated the "Hekicar". The Hekicar is a famous purple van with Hekiru's
face airbrushed on the back and sides. The artist who did it was a real
genius... The art is incredibly lifelike. All I can say is... wow... It was
really nice talking to people and finding out what Hekiru means to them,
which in turn redefined my own views about Hekiru and her impact on me.

That, and the fact that I met up with an old friend from college, and had
really good okonomiyaki, made for a really wonderful weekend. Boy I'm glad
I took today off work. My body is a total wreck and so is my mind from
sleep deprivation.

Jimmy, Kevin, I checked out the location of the seats at Nakano Sunplaza,
and they are right in front of the left speaker. If I were you, I'd bring
along some earplugs, unless you enjoy hearing loss. (For some reason Nakano
always seems to be especially loud.) Pick me up a pair too. ^^ And a
six-pack of 500ml Mountain Dew if it's not too much trouble. See you in a
couple weeks!
