I did; my mother always taught me to have an open mind about things, up to

You forget, Relic... Not all parents, let alone mothers, are/were as
cool as that. I know that my mother did not like it that I was still
'watching cartoons'. No matter how many times I had tried to explain to her
the vast difference between the two art forms, she refused to accept anime as
something completely different from the cartoons of the past generations.
She adamantly refused whenever I offered to have her sit down and "try it".
By the way, she thought of herself as a very "open-minded" person. And
she was... in most cases, anime not being one of them. Fortunately she
wasn't the type of person who would actively try to stop anyone from watching
anime.
