This wasn't Viz this time; and Takahashi-sensei was apparently
unhappy about the first "season", which is why the jarring ending is
as it was. Actually this was referred to in Animenominous! issue 2
(came out around 1990, similar to the classic first version of Animag).

Good luck in S. Korea; my eldest brother was stationed there
in the early to mid 1970s (between Vietnam and W. Germany);
Don't remember the base (he was Army), but it was definitely
around Seoul; he met his wife there and they've been married
ever since.
