Well, what the site said is true, in essence. The OAVs are "original"
episodes, but probably not in the context that you'd initially thought. The
episodes in the Digital Dojo are inaugural episodes for the series, and that
makes them original. But the episodes in the OAVs are original in that they
were not included in the series, and were included as 'original animation'.
Most of the time, an OAV shows the viewer an alternate timeline or
dimension to the original plot or storyline of the series... but in some
cases (like most of the episodes in the Ranma 1/2 OAV) they are just other
'episodes' in the manga that did not get animated.
Like Joshua commented, a couple of them are _totally_ original, not even
being in the manga.
<Thanks to all who answered my questions:-)>
I'm always happy to lend an ear or to answer some questions. It's a
large part of what makes this ML run.
Of course, I may not always be right (i'm pretty sure my track record on
this ML is not too great), but there's always someone out there that _will_
correct me if I'm wrong, and give people the right answers! That's what's so
great about this ML! ^_^
