Wow, there is still life here!

I may well dust this one off, to see if any recent arrivals have any input.

Ranma 1/2 Psyche Assessments
Judge for Yourself.

Sane as one can get under the circumstances (psychiatric help a waste of time
and money):
Cologne: She's in it for amusement, I'm convinced of it. If she or Shampoo
wanted Ranma for breeding material he would have been theirs long ago.

Probably does not _need_ therapy... but it couldn't hurt:
Nabiki: While her fixation on money and emotional detachments are mildly
maladaptive and stem from pretty bad unresolved trauma, she's quite functional
as she is. The hole she's trying to fill with wealth is still there though.
Genma: Wherever he learned his parenting skills, gender roles, and concept
of women was not a Nice Place. Digging Deeper may be advisable.
Kasumi: She's _way_ to calm in the face of All This Madness. Given the fate of
her mother I suspect some probing would be in order.
Shampoo: When one bothers to account for cultural differences (she was born
and raised a Barbarian Warrior with all the baggage that entails), her social
dysfunction is fairly minor and her main problem is loneliness (her position as
Villiage Champion and That Loon Who Keeps Bugging Her have gone a great
distance toward socially isolating her back home). Some actual friends will do
her more good than anything.
Taro: Again, someone who's basically functional but has numerous social and
self-esteem issues to work out. A new name would help, but it is far from
enough.

Get Thee To A Shrink, _NOW_:
Soun: The man's a wreck, and probably has been for the past decade.
Ranma: Oh this kid is a _mess_! His entire self worth is bound up in two
things; being the absolute best at martial arts, and his(moderately
maladaptive) perception of manhood. In effect, he has an ego the size of
Fuji-yama that is a fragile as spun glass. On top of it all his social skills
are considerably _worse_ than Shampoo's.
Akane: Let's see; an ego nearly as fragile than Ranma's (and considerably
more battered due to her relative skill level), jeaulousy to the point of
outright paranoia, and a moderately poor perception of objective reality. On
top of that, her self-esteem is not so hot either.
Ukyo: This woman has fixated on a single man (either hating or loving him)
for ten solid years of her life, that is bad by definition when one is only 16.
The fact that she has _profound_ gender indentity problems just icing on the
cake.
Nodoka: Her concept of Gender Roles is even more maladaptive than Genma's.
That in addition to the fact that she married the man in question probably
indicates that Something Is Wrong.
Kodachi: Frankly, her basic problems (inability to interact normally,
conviction that victory is All There Is, and exaggerated desire for
companionship) are very similar to Ranma's and Shampoo's. It is fairly obvious
that her home life was/is rather unpleasant and she has had little support from
her family, but her grasp of reality is quite strong and it is unlikely she is
so bad off that conventional outpatient therapy would not work.
Hinako-sensei: Between her arrested emotional development and her
obsessions, she's actually a bit worse off than most of the others in this
category. However, medication could easily do more harm than good given her
physiological... eccentricities. A long vacation characterized by therapy would
do her a world of good, but she not _quite_ ready for a rubber room either.

Try some Paxil and/or Valium, it'll do you some good:
Ryoga: The boy shows obvious signs of clinical depression and chronic low
self-esteem (he mastered the Perfect Shishi Hokodan and literally worships any
woman that treats him with any kindness whatsoever). His fixation on Ranma is
also a Bad Sign, considering Ryoga seems to have difficulty not associating him
with virtually all of his current difficulties.
Mousse: Let me see if I understand this, the best way to the heart of a
woman who barely tolerates you to begin with is to try offing a man whom she
does _clearly_ loves/desires... riiight. The boy is a borderline stalker (if
his behavior towards Ranma is at all typical we can delete the qualifier), and
if he does not seek treatment either he or the object of his 'affection' will
come to grief.
Principal Kuno: He's (barely) functional; but the assortment of fixations
and obsessions associated with Hawaii and hair are in need of treatment, his
family could well be beyond salvage, and his manic tendencies would best be
controlled with medication before someone (probably him) gets hurt.

See the nice white jacket with the really long sleeves?:
Kuno Tatewaki: General imbicility was incurable the last time I checked, but
the boy's delusions are both profound (Onna-Ranma and Akane have made thier
feelings perfectly clear in this matter repeatedly) and potentially life
threatening in his case. Long term therapy and/or medication _may_ help, but
getting him to take them on his own is a lost cause.
Happosai: His physiological addiction and psychological fixations may, in
theory, be treatable. Unfortunately he is also unlikely to cooperate at all
with any medical professionals and would be prone to escape or raid if in
anything resembling a residential setting.
