Lol. It was up for about a year and a half, with close to 200,000 hits
before it went down.

I started off hosting the music files in .wav format, then I found this neat
compression format called .mp2 which let me whack the filesize down to 1/4
to 1/3 the size. About half way through the lifespan of the archive,
somebody asked me whether I'd heard of this newfangled .mp3 format. I check
it out, then dismissed it for the time being because the Fraunhopher
Institute made you pay for the encoder. Plus, there were precious few
programs that would actually play mp3 files.

So, it was crappy mp2 all the way. Plus, although I hosted complete songs, I
made sure that the quality was pretty low so people wouldn't replace the
retail CDs with them. I had a lot of people email me and tell me that they
specifically went out looking for the Cds after listening to the songs off
my website.

*sniff* Wow...Those were the days ^_^ I think I lost the last bits and
pieces I had of that website in a Hard drive crash a couple of years back -
Over 750mb of files, WITHOUT any of the music videos. (The music vids were
quicktimes that I linked to on a different sight.) I had the page hosted on
a 486 computer linked to the university backbone in my father's office.
There is absolutely no way I'd be able to afford to host a site like that
these days.... Just try and find someplace that'll let you host a gig of
files on their server...

Jeez. Now I'm starting to feel old :P
