On 2002-02-05 Albert was overheard saying:

<The translation of having anything to do with race is misleading in this
context. The initial kanji, pronounced D long-O, basically means "same" and
appears in many compounds.>

     I had forgotten about that! Gomen! When written out in romanji it can
have quite a few different forms. You may see it with a line over the vowel,
or you might see it written with the "U" after it (most of the time, it's
"OU"). But in some books, I've even seen it spelled with a double "O". It
can get a bit confusing unless you're aware of it.

<The root word "doujin", refers, among other things, to a group of people
with something in common. My dictionary says "a coterie; a clique; a
fraternity; a club; kindred spirits".>

     My dictionary also says it can mean "universal benevolence" though I
don't think that might have any bearing towards this subject.

<My understanding is that doujinshi are manga self-published by such a small
group: thus the name.>

     <nods> "Shi" has over 100 meanings, depending on the kanji. So, I
think it would be best if we left it at that! ^_~;
