Well, the short answer is that Jusenkyou curses behave however
Takahashi-sensei wants them to. The rest of us are left trying
to deduce from examples. Certianly many people were suprised
by a Jusenkyou curse which appears in the role of a *major
spoiler* in the final story arc.
An interesting thing about the hot vs. cold water question
is that Japanese has distinct words for hot and cold water.
("mizu" => cold water, "oyu" or "yu" => hot water)
People have inferred that a relatively small amount of water
is effective when it is applied to the head. And it's been
speculated that the temperature is hot or cold relative
to body temperature. But I don't think there's definite
proof.
Even in the Ranma-verse, people who understand ancient Chinese
curses seem in a distinct minority, though there's a lot of
magic going around. Given that this is a martial arts
comedy, the Chinese influence is less surprising.
