*Hai! Hai! Does the name Hitomi Ichinohei mean anything to you?

I suppose it is a matter of perspective. I was told that Hitomi-San was
RIDICULED off the ML because of intollerance, as I was ALSO told that
Hitomi-San was a transsexual. I have never been able to contact Hitomi-San,
but I cannot blame her for not writing back. I am sure she thinks that I am
simply another person who would try to crush her soul. That is what *I*
might think in her place.
I began collecting all her fan-fics, including "Clothes Make The..." which is
(to me) perhaps the greatest Ranma fan-fic ever written. Most certainly the
best I have read so far. Not because of the subject, but because all the
loose ends in the Ranma story line were tied up very neatly. I would like to
think that the original Takahashi story-line WOULD have ended that way. It
was extrremely logical and fit very well into the format of the story line.
But if Hitomi-San IS a transsexual, it is not very nice to use masculine
pronouns in refference to her. I try to give everyone the benefit of the
doubt. How we define ourselves can sometimes be quite different from how
other people see us. I understand these things differently than other people
do because I myself am closer to that situation than I might want to admit.
I had not realized that there was also a "fan-fic" ML as well... The person
who told me all about Hitomi-San (who will not be named here) is someone who
is quite respected in Ranma Fandom. If I said the name, you would know them
immediately.
What breaks my heart is that there is so much prejudice against people like
Hitomi-San. The government of Japan is itself intollerant of transsexuals,
and the surgery to change sex is still illegal in Japan. This is why I had
always hoped thet the "Jusenkyou legend" were real. Besides, Nabiki-Chan
says that it would sure save a bundle on the cost of surgery. ^_^
But... even IF one somehow manages to survive long enough to be in the
position to obtain corrective surgery, the government still does not accord
them full rights based on their new sex, so on passports and drivers'
licenses and such things, a male-to-female transsexual (who is now physically
female) is STILL registered under her original sex. In Japan, one can never
escape the shame of being considered less than a man.
But YHIS country is even worse! In 1982, the United States Supreme Court
held up a lower court decision that said that ALL transsexuals, whether they
are male-to-female, female-to-male, pre-op or post-op, are not legally human.
(r.e. Karen Ulane vs. Eastern Airlines.) Under their definition, someone
like Hitomi-San HAS no sex and is therefore NOT human. This is why Federal
law refuses to give transsexuals equal rights and equal protection under the
law.
But... If you follow history, you will KNOW that declaring a group of people
to be "non-human" is just the FIRST STEP to exterminating them. This is why
I do not wish to be an American citizen. There is NO liberty and justice for
all as long as ANY group of people are deprioved of their rights as human
beings, which are given to them by God, NOT the government. I do not support
ANY government that takes away a person's humanity.
