Yeah, that's a good point, the Herb story arc is
pretty cool, as is the Shinnosuke one. Maybe Ranma is
not doomed after all.

Of course, Tetsuwan is probably Tezuka's most popular
work, Jungle Taitei is good, but too childish.
IMO, Blackjack is Tezuka's masterpiece, but it's also
the less popular of his works out of Japan.

If I remember well, Toukan is a very small publisher,
right? My guess is that they couldn't pay Viz for the
publishing rights, and that's why they cut the series.
I always thought it would have been better if
Editorial VID had published Ranma over there since the
beginning.
