Greetings. I apologize in advance for writing to you directly, but I live in Northern
Virigina, just outside of Washington, DC, and I have been casually searching for several
years for a copy of a record as a gift for my father. He was in Japan in the Navy
in the late 50's and speaks often of the song China Night by Ho Mei Fan. So, I got
more serious and did an internet search and came across the following passage, and
your addresses. The reason for my message is that I would love to buy the record
for my father for Christmas. I will keep looking but this is best link to it I've
ever found. One of you has actually held this record in your hands! Again, sorry,
and you can just delete this message if you are offended by direct contact.

(Little spammy aside to those who have knowlege ofold Japanese records...)
I was going through a number of my old 45 RPM records
(some of these date to the 30s, and I got a Souza record
recorded in 1926), and apparently some of these were
originally bought during the US Occupation of
Japan; in particular, a 45 with 4 songs on it (has no
date), put out by Nippon Columbia, calledChina Night; World Famous Japanese Hit
Melodies (neat period cover slip). The songs
have the lyrics printed on the back of the slip,
Here are the songs, and the performers;China Night (Ho Mei Fan)
Japanese Rumba (George Shimabukuro; Noman(sic) Nishimoto)
Gomennasai (Richard Bowers)The Soba Song (Hibari Misora).
As I said, I have no idea when this was put out; I am
guessing during the Occupation, because of a bag I
have (came with the record collection) advertising
Victor Records, and the address of a place
called Sawa Shop, located beside the EM Club
(Enlisted Men's); 12-3 Honcho Yokosuka tel. 3868.
Judging by the ancient look of the bag, I'd say that
the phone number has probably changed ^_^.
Any idea as to the date of the songs? Anyone????
