>This one reason why the Order of the Cold Shower
>exists.

>As I've said before, the main question is: who will
>take more cold showers, Ranma or the members of the
>OCS?

Hmm...

I know you've said this before, but I didn't hear you
last time.

Now that I'm ready to understand what you are
saying...

1. As for OCS members, Taking a cold shower cures
certain "Impure thoughts."

2. For Ranma, taking a cold shower cures certain
"Impure thoughs" also.

Intriguing.

Now I see. Is the OCS accepting new members??
---------

Mr Wang.

Before I begin.

Over these past months I know that you have a tendency
to be blunt. I know this and accept it. Please do not
take offense if I am blunt in kind.

>There is a real problem with
>increasing violent crimes commited by minors (at
>least it's been bought to
>attention more often) and there has to a cause to
>this, and it's a known fact that there is a clear
>corrleation between the two.
(Video Games and Behavior.)

Studies on Video Games and violence can go both ways,
Pro or Con. And, as you said, there are other
underlying factors to criminal behavior, such as
abuse, neglect, and poverty.

Video Games may possibly inspire crime, however, so do
Books, Magazines, and even the holy texts themselves.

How many people have fought Crusades or Holy Jihads,
based on "Scripture"?? How many people were massacred,
raped or enslaved, in the name of God, Jehovah, or
Allah??

How many people became a serial killer based on Jack
the Ripper chronicles, or some other True Crime novel
they may have read??

Since there is also a correlation between Great
literary works and violence, then we should ban
Novels, Periodicals and works of art as well as video
games.

We should also ban Buddhist works, the Bible, the
Koran, and the Bible as well, while we're at it.

How far should we go??
I understand your views and you do have valid points.
If I were to express my political veiws, I would be
more libertarian than anything else. In a free
society, banning books or movies would be censorship,
IMHO, something I strongly oppose.

This is strictly my opinion.

Even our Ranma 1/2 can be mis-interpreted. Some moron
could get the idea to steal panties for real, or beat
up on old guys so he/she could become a better martial
artist.

>But people like you who outright dismisses the
>possibility that what you like can even be
>responsible for the increasing
>violent crime do not help the cause in anyway.

Video Games may make some crazy individuals go out and
commit violent crime. Some people are crazy like that.
However, my point is that the vast majority of gamers
are not going to do anything stupid just because they
played a game. What the Media and Politicians do when
they blame a GAME for a person's actions is basically
insult my intellegence. All I'm asking is to please
not lump me into that group. That is why all these
Senate hearings make me sick.

If someone commits a crime, punish the individual,
move on.

>The government is not out to screw you, and the video
>game industry has as much money as almost anyone else
>in this world. Tobacco industry gives a huge amount
>of donations and they're still regulated heavily by
>the government. Believe it or not our political
>system doesn't work like 'give me $ and I'll let you
>do whatever illegal stuff you want".

I don't think that the Government is tapping my phone
or anything like that. (^_^)

I come from a political family. My grandfather was a
Indianapolis City Concilman, my uncle is a presidental
appointee with the US Marshals, and my Mother is the
Chief Court clerk, Marion County Criminal court,
Divison one.

Based on this upbringing, I would say this:

1. Seeing the amount of money that is raised to fund
re-election campaigns, money DOES matter. For example,
with the Bill Clinton white house scandals, Al Gore
making donation soliciting calls from his V.P. office,
and let's not forget the Congressmen who must raise
funds every WEEK while they are in office. When do
they have time to govern in between fund-raising??

2. My mother's court tries major crimes such as
kidnapping, Murder, Arson, and Rape, among others. I
can assure you, 99.9% of these criminals are not on
trial because video games made them commit a triple
homicide over a drug deal gone bad.

>Your behavior is very typical of the average Net game
>player. You always complain that the media and the
>government are out to screw you and that the system
>is screwed up, but less than 1% of you will actually
>go out and vote to try to get things changed.

I really hope you are not talking about ME, Shinobu,
but "You" as in the general Net population.

Because, due to my before mentioned upbringing, we in
my family are VERY politically active!! (^_^)

I did vote today, in fact. And, for the record, this
is my first time really expressing an opinion on a
subject like this. I have a lot to be grateful to the
government for. It's called the 14th amendement, and
civil rights legislation.

>It may take forever before they can discern the exact
>effect of violent games/movies, but we know the
>effect is clearly there, and that
>these industries are still trying to sell what's
>labeled as Mature or R rating to people who are
>definitely not of that age.

I agree with you here. Some things should not be
marketed to children, if parents object to that
material.

As for me, I don't see myself having a problem with my
kids playing games like Doom or Mortal Kombat, or
watching movies like Fist of the North Star or Ninja
Scroll, because those were the games and movies of my
youth. I know that, so long as I teach my child the
difference between fantasy and reality, it's all
Gravy. My beef is when some third party says that I
will turn into a violent lunatic if I play too much
WarGods. That's what pisses me off.

I dunno. I guess this is like the battle over Horror
Comics years back. Maybe controversy is the way of the
world.

Once again, I don't mean any disrespect Wang-Sempai.
