I think the Smurfs were just some cute little plastic figures doing various
things (soccer, cooking, etc) when they first started out- no history, no
special names, nothing. Their popularity hit critical mass and the cartoon
was born. Possibly one of the first phenomena of its kind? I'm pretty
sure Ron is right when he says that there was no Smurfette at first,
either. ("Oh, boo-hoo!")

Of course, I never was too deep into Smurfology, especially after it got
unbearably saccharin, got all those human allies, and cut the
Bugs-Bunny/Road-runner Show down to 1/2 hour by taking up 2 of it's own.
(Can you imagine ANY cartoon having a 2hr time slot??) I also can't listen
to any piece of classical music that was used in the cartoon, except the
one I renamed "The Plight of the Smurfs", since it was always BGM when
something was wrong...

>Plus, then there's Asrael, the cat. Wuzzup with him??
>I mean, Gargamel treated him like crap. If I were
>Asrael, I would have rebelled.

*Thumbs through tiny handbook of modern colloquialisms*

"That's what I'm sayin'!"

>la-la->la-la, la,la-la-la-la!"

>LOL!!
>I wonder how many times I went around Indy humming
>that...

And now, to top it all off, I've got the Smurfberry Crunch cereal song in
my head... dammit.

"Smurfberry Crunch is fun to eat! A Smurfy, fruity breakfast treat!"

I remember someone I knew gave me a stack of those. All I remember is
Tin-tin and his dog (or was Tin-tin the dog?) getting on a submarine, and
the dog getting drunk on brandy at some point...
