I think they are worth purchasing.  I'd prefer purchasing them new or maybe 
even DVD.

If you like the OVA series, try and purchase the entire tankoubon series.  I 
hear Viz is doing a translated version of the manga series.  I personally 
purchased all of the Japanese tankoubons and dl'ed the translations from the 
'net.
