Well, there's a _lot_ of the Japanese language that isn't part
of the normal-polite speech recommended for tourists.
But one still would like to understand it, especially
if one watches a lot of anime.

I think there's a fair amount of overlap between the informal
speech used in the family and among close friends, and what you
might see used in sexual situations; maybe not some specific words, 
but the general form of the sentences.

(Recommended reading for the curious: "Making Out in Japanes" and
"More Making Out in Japanese". Despite the titles, all but about
one chapter of the first book is about general informal Japanese,
the second is more fucused on sexual/romantic situations.)
