But after Ranma said he didn't know anything about the engagement, that
Ukyou was a *girl* in the first place, and Genma admitted he engaged them
without Ranma's knowledge, that didn't cool her down one bit. She still
wanted to kick Ranma's ass. And then Ranma went "you're cute!" and poof!
Her fuse burned out.

It is to be expected that some people would find that a tad... strange...

>What's love got to do with arranged marraige in Japan?

Aww... you're always saying that. You seem to be forgetting that our anime
heroines are young, 16-year old girls who still harbor fantasies about
falling madly in love with a guy, and living happily ever after (Ukyou
certainly falls under this category).

What's love got to do with it? Everything! Almost *any* teenage girl would
want to hope that she would marry for love, not for duty alone. Sure, they
know it *IS* a matter of family honor, but it certainly wouldn't hurt if you
loved each other too, and aren't just marrying for duty, right?

So, yeah, I think love plays a very big role in the grand scheme of things.
It *is* an arranged marriage, but that won't stop Ukyou (or Akane) from
wishing that Ranma would love her back, and *that* is the real reason why
he's marrying her. Since she loves him anyway, and almost nothing is as
painful as loving someone who doesn't love you back, right? Especially if
you're going to spend the next 50 years with each other...

Or then again, maybe that's just me, being hopelessly romantic and wishing
that everyone can be as happily in love as I am right now... ^_^
