I have told you how much I enjoy your letters, right?

Okay. I gotta say I pretty much agree with you. America's views in general
on not just anime but the general content of shows is very shallow. To
the average american veiwer shows, movies, comics, books, etc. are not
deep, and they believe that they aren't supposed to be. It's all summed up
in Disney's animation creed - there must be a song every ten minutes or
the movie is a falure and people will not go see it. This is
the attitude of the majority of people in America and it's not going to
change any time soon. Probably not for a few decades and even then it
depends. Gee, I hate to lump a people together like this, but I think it's
very true.

I don't think Tenchi will be "the bomb" like you put it. Yeah, it's a BIG
step for anime fans. And if it fails that way it has potential to fail,
then you're right that it might shut a few doors for us seeing more mature
animes on cable for quite a while. Like, if there's two kinds of
people - those who watch Dragon Ball Z and say, "Man, the fights are damn
cool!" and those who watch it and say, "The fights are damn cool, but
isn't it so much more spectacular the way the entire series makes a story
and has character development?" You don't have a lot of the second kind of
anime fans around, I think. People might watch Tenchi and like it, but
they might not see anything past a bunch of silly, big-eyed cartoon
characters screaming at each other for thirty minutes.
