Actually, being a conceited, egotistical, and otherwise stubborn guy,
Ranma would take any challenge, any insult, not only personally, but so much
more strongly than most folks. More often than not, Ranma doesn't really
give a hoot about the challenger, the challenge, or the issues at hand,
merely that *he can not lose*. Never, ever, never. Can't lose, won't let
himself lose, and being main character will not lose (temporarily, perhaps,
but ultimately, never). Ranma don't like being insulted, regardless of the
insult. This instance is also the proof some have been searching for when
they ask, "why does Ranma never think, 'Hey I'm damn sexy!'" or some other
goofy and badly crafted statement. Tsubasa basically calls him on that, and
his immediate response is a 'no way I can lose', not this time because of his
superior martial arts skills, but because he is confident in his good looks.
More than that, he is confident in his superior superiority. Good or bad, it
is no less true that, Ranma *knows* (I'd say thinks, but dammit he knows it)
he is better. Just the way his is.
Y'know I always wanted to see Kuno get hung up on Tsubasa, that
would've been hilarious, considering each of them having, uh, issues with
reality.
