I recall hearing (and in one case, seeing) about how Vision of Escaflowne
had two versions of the manga, one Shojo and one Shonen (I have  the final
episode in an old copy of Shonen Ace; man, I never woulda believed that
this is where the artist of Hoshikazu Paradise would end up ^_^). Maybe the
anime more reflects the designs of the Shojo version. I remember reading
how Takeuchi Naoko mentioned that she thought that the TV version was
less her Shojo version and more of a Shonen influence in it. Seems that the
same may have been done with VoH and, somewhat, Fushigi Yuugi.
