From two different perspectives.
From a hardcore anime fan's perspective, I found it to be a decent
romantic comedy as well, although more towards the romantic than the
comedy. It's one of those animes that builds upon itself, so that after
you watch a few episodes, you get hooked into the characters and the
story. One of those unexplainably addictive series. Not bad by any means,
it manages to be a nostalgically touching tale exactly when it needs to be
in order to make it stand out and be different.
From a non-hardcore anime fan's perspective, I found it to be boring as
hell - comedy moments too few and far between, emotional scenes a little
too drawn out and staged, love triangle that manages to drag and drag,
etc...

I saw the first four episodes of Blue-Green Years last year from
a tape that Ron (the Relic) sent me when he copied his Escaflowne fansubs for
me. I will be honest and say I absolutely hated the series it was way to
shojo for me. I will also be honest and admit that I hate most shojo anime
and manga I see. I like Fushigi Yugi, X, Whispers of the Heart, and KareKano
but not much if anything else that falls under the shojo genre. I personally
wish for all Sailor Moon manga, anime, and merchandise to burn in the pits of
hell. To me most shojo is too sugary sweet and repetative, in my eyes if you
have seen one shojo romantic comedy you have seen them all. I do not hate
anime and manga series that are romantic comedies or just romances but I
prefer the ones that come from a shonen or seinan (young man) backgroung like
Maison Ikkoku, Video Girl Ai, Ah! My Goddess, Kimagure Road, and anything by
Mitsuru Adachi.
