Yoru on Viz DVD:
>And as for the DVD, they're not only overcharging and
>underreleasing,
>they're region-encoding for USA-only play. Bah!
IMO, by now that's not really a problem, considering you can
dezone any DVD player for a very modest fee.
(It costs absolutely nothing if you have a cheap player)
The overcharge and underrelease IS a big problem however.
Someone tell them to actually TRY their own products or
something.
>I think their main problem is overextension- too many series, too
>many magazines, too much anime to handle.
I don't want to sound stupid, but isn't that the point of recruiting??
And development, and all?
J'ai lu releases 3 tankoubon each month. That's 600 pages. So
what if the sound fx are not transposed? European languages are
too poor on that side anyway.

You shouldn't say that. Backing up the POV of a poster can lead
to discussion. It might also make other potential posters less shy,
if they see that there's at least reaction to what they post.
As for being poor and all, I think most of the students on this ML
are in the same situation. I was once rich, but I'm so broke now
that I can't afford anything.
That -should- change sometime this year, however.

*grumbles* Now I definetely -HATE- America...
Yoru again:
>(Aside from RRK, which no one seems to want to touch with a
>ten foot pole.)
And that's a shame if you ask me.
(OK, that's why they didn't ask me.)
BTW, RRK is RuRouni Kenshin.
> In the case of some of those smaller houses you mentioned,
>they don't have the capital to buy the rights to distribute the more
>popular titles.
>Probably.
That's a fact, but there are older and cheaper series that could be
released... Or heck, why not release CDs? It's done in a few
countries, so it has to be worth something.
Of course I'm in no position to talk, because I'm craving after brand
new titles, but I'm quite sure there are classics that are still waiting
for a translator...
>Re: starting your own company......... friends of mine, and I, are

I could only help in providing drafts for translations. Touch is very
interesting; I made the project last March for Glenat in France and
it seems I was two weeks too late, for they just had another
contract done. Mind you, I've yet to see the first volume in France...
But I'm no longer expecting anything from the market. I am trying
to enter the "other side" of it (i.e. the production team) but when I
see the treatments I've received until now...
Beauty of English:
Common English is a very cheap language. Correct English is
another story.
Besides, just look at the world wide music market.
>I'm not overweight, and I'm not 35.
>do I still fit the definition of Otaku? (^_-)
*frowns* I know I'm too sensitive about this, but It's not something
to be proud of.
Don:
>Speaking of PSX2, is anyone getting one? I heard you can't even
>reserve one anymore and probably have to camp outside stores to
>get them.
The usual...
I won't have one until MUCH later. I'm really broke, even if it's "only"
350$.
>Seriously you think people didn't bother looking at stuff
>like 'Project Kid' inscripted on the Fortress of Time, or when Sarah

It depends. If they had the texts to translate when the game was
still in development (very likely, I should know) they had no
screenshots to begin with...
That's one of the few things they should get (even if it is a
priviledge): a beta version of the game.
So much for now...
