Think about that. If the big, slow, lumbering companies like Viz
suck up all the popular titles' licensing rights, then how can
the aforementioned other houses release them? (Aside from RRK,
which no one seems to want to touch with a ten foot pole.)
What's RPK?
Viz may have the best titles, but that means jack if they don't
release stuff frequently. Frankly, if they ate up fewer titles,
more stuff would be released because numerous smaller houses could
snap up the rights and produce translations in a timely manner. >>
I think that they more or less release them in a decently timely
manner when it comes to the manga magazines and invidual issues. Their GN
releases can be done much faster. Right know Viz releases at least right now
Viz releases at least 15 titles monthly (includes titles releases in
Animerica Extra and Pulp), most titles at 20-30 pages a month. That is a
pretty impressive if you ask me. That is at least 300-450 pages a month of
manga that Viz releases, not to mention they run Animerica which despite what
fanboys say I find to be a pretty decent anime magazine, not as good as Manga
Max but one hundred times better than Protoculture Addicts. I think Viz is
doing fairly well with the amount of manga they release monthly. The problem
with wanning interest is not really the fault of Viz. Most fan favorite manga
series tend to be the long ones like Ranma (38 Tankobans), Fushigi Yugi (18
Tankobans), Dragonball (46 Tankobans), and so on. Fans get really excited
when these series first come out but their length usually makes fans shy away
from staying faithful to buying the series and then they move on too newer
series.
For those who are curius these are the titles that Viz currently releases
monthly:
Ranma, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Evangelion, Gundam, Pokemon, Fushigi Yugi,
X, Steam Detectives, Strain, Dance Till Tommorrow, Video Girl Ai, Bananna
Fish, Eagle,
Inu-Yasha, and probably some others I am forgetting about.
