<Don't know about the manga. But in the Cantonese dubs of the anime,
Shampoo speaks Mandarin when she is naming the food Ranma and his father
eat in the flashback. She speaks Cantonese fluently later on in the
anime series with a minor accent. Actually watched almost all of the
series in the Chinese dubs of the anime before I've ever heard of the
manga or seen the english version. So the concept of her being a bimbo
because of 'bimbo' speak never occured to me until I saw the english
translation. Totally weirded me out. >

For those of you that don't know, if you listen tot he original Japanese,
Shampoo also uses "watashi wa", or "I" freely in her speech - so it isn't
really broken Japanese she's speaking, either. The "bimbo" or "cavewoman"
factor only figure sinto the dub in English.

Sakuma Rei is very talented and merely switches to a Chinese accent when
she's Shampoo. It makes for a Shampoo that doesn't look as dumb as she
does in the dub (not that there's that much wrong with the dub, IMHO, but
it helps if you know she's not really supposed to sound that way).
